Hi, I’m Candace Brie
Moving my body and lifting weights while listening to motivational speeches, podcasts, or anything 90s is my jam!
I began training at a young age as a competitive gymnast but left the sport in my early teens due to family and time constraints.
Quite a few inactive years later, I found my lack of activity catching up with me. I was overweight and had been battling some anxiety and depression, so I decided to clean up my act, hit the gym and ditch the daily fast-food line-up.
I booked a consultation with a personal trainer. This was a life-changing moment for me.
I had no idea where to even begin in the gym, but having someone there to guide me and give me a plan was the action piece I needed to start changing my habits from bad ones to good.
I’d always heard that exercise released happy feelings, but I was now experiencing it first hand. Not only was I seeing changes in my body, my mood and confidence drastically improved.
My new-found confidence had my sights set on the stage and decided to compete in my first bodybuilding show. Little did I know it would be the beginning of the latter. I had little to no experience on how to eat and train for a show, so I did what I knew, exercised more and ate less. I got myself to a very unhealthy and unsustainable body size that should only stick around for the day of the show, but to me, I still wasn’t small enough. I felt like crap, hungry, irritable, emotional, and lost my period for almost 3 years.
I would go through times of being “good”, and when I say good, that meant barely eating. This would then result in a binge, a binge that would last for days, and even weeks, leaving me depressed and not wanting to leave my house in fear people would see me not in "stage shape" and know that I’d binged. This went on for years, and it cost me relationships, opportunities, and the good and fun aspects of my life.
It wasn’t until I was 28 that I’d hit rock bottom. I hurt my back, lost my job, and had to move back home.
Chronic pain left me unable to train, and I felt like I’d become a prisoner of my own body. This brought on those overwhelming feelings of anxiety and depression I knew so well. I knew things needed to change so I decided to learn everything I could about pain management, including meditation, and making a program that suited what my body was capable of in its current state.
After being told that my only option was to surgically repair my spine, I knew I needed to take my health into my own hands. Slowly but surely I trained my body to be strong, stronger than I’d ever been, and pain days were fewer and further between.
So few that in 2017 I decided I was ready to set another goal and prep myself to compete in the largest amateur fitness competition in BC - the right way. Which landed me the opportunity to compete at a national level and proud to say I came in second!
Throughout my own journey of healing my mind and body, I’ve been blessed to have made a positive impact in the lives of the people around me and in my community. So much so that I knew it was my calling to share my story, experience, and knowledge that I’d gained. These days I focus on being the strongest and healthiest version of myself.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with hundreds of women through personal training, group programs, coaching, and seminars. Building a community of confident and strong women who believe in themselves is my happy place.
